The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) has asked a House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee to reschedule the interactive session slated for Thursday.

Daily Trust had reported how the committee overseeing the emergency rule in Rivers invited Ibas to appear before it on Thursday (today).

The 21-member committee chaired by the House Leader, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, was inaugurated by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on Tuesday.

The committee was constituted by the House of Representatives following the resolution of the National Assembly approving the Presidential Proclamation of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers last month, citing persistent political instability and recent security threats, including pipeline explosions.

The president suspended Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the House of Assembly for six months. He described the move as “inevitably compelling” based on security reports.

In their place, Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibas as sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs pending resolution of the crisis — a decision that has sparked widespread debate across the country.

After his appointment, Ibas suspended all political officeholders appointed by Fubara.

Ibas was expected to address the lawmakers on governance in the state.

But in a statement issued on Thursday, spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi, said Ibas requested a rescheduling of the meeting.

He said a new date for the session would be announced in the coming days.

“The Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight has received a formal request from the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), to reschedule the interactive session initially set for today, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.

“The Committee has acknowledged the request and is in the process of coordinating a new date for the session. In the spirit of transparent and effective oversight, the public will be promptly informed once the rescheduled date is confirmed,” the statement read.
