Last Thursday, Oteh opened what became popularly known as the Pandora’s Box at the legislative hearing on the collapse of the Nigerian capital market accusing the committee of soliciting bribes from her.

 

Her accusation came two days after the lawmakers had grilled her over claims of large-scale fraud.

She said her refusal to give the bribes was behind the hostility of the committee to her during the hearing.

On Wednesday during the first session of the hearing, Hembe told Oteh that documents available to the committee showed she used N850,000 for feeding on a day alone, and also spent N30 million on hotel bills.

Speaking to Sunday Trust yesterday on telephone, Jagaba said the N44 million bribery allegations levelled against Chairman House committee on Capital Market and Institutions Rep. Herman Hembe (PDP, Benue) was a ploy to divert attention from the main issue at hand.

“We will never be deterred and distracted from doing our work. If she has a case against Hembe she should address it through the right channel but for now she must answer the questions raised against her. If she has documented issues against the committee she should bring them to us as there is no sacred cow in the House. But if told a lie on oath she should be ready to face the music,” Jagaba said.

“She claimed that she had a first class in the university but it has not come to bear on the execution of her work considering the sorry state of our capital market today and if SEC will be graded as university student, it would have failed not to talk of having first class,” the legislator noted.
