Deputy chairman of the committee John Diye stated this yesterday in Bauchi when the committee visited the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi as part of their oversight function.
He said, “For example this year they have a funding of just about 23 per cent as against 50 per cent for two quarters of the year and the funding for capital projects last year was about 45 per cent. These are some of the challenges that they are having.”
Dr. Diye  lamented that inadequate release of funds to tertiary education has been one of the problems observed in all the institutions visited by his team.
He, however, commended the management of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi  for being prudent in the management of funds it had so far received to execute projects.
Earlier, the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Shuaibu Musa conducted  the team round some projects that included  1, 500 lecture theatre, 510-seater lecture hall, Agriculture and Engineering blocks executed at the cost  of N200 million, N180 million and N23 million respectively.
Dr. Musa told the lawmakers  that due to the paucity of budgetary funds, the management had to devise ways of properly utilising funds received from the Federal Government.
