The House of Representatives has called on the federal government to address the escalating bandits’ attacks in communities across Faskari, Kankara, and Sabuwa local government areas of Katsina State.
The House made the call after a resolution on a motion of urgent public importance by the member representing Faskari/Kankara/Sabuwa federal Constituency of Katsina State, Rep. Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki at the Plenary on Tuesday.
Presenting the motion, he expressed concern over bandits’ attacks in his federal constituency in the past four months.
He said, “On Friday, 4th October 2024, armed bandits ambushed members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, an initiative put in place by His Excellency, Governor Dikko Umar Radda along the Yankara-Faskari road, killing six members, wounding two others, and seizing their weapons.

“Just two days later, on Sunday, 8th October 2024, the bandits targeted innocent people at Balan Dawa village, killing three and kidnapping some women. The violence escalated again on Monday, 7th October 2024, when bandits attacked the Funtua-Gusau road, killing one person and kidnapping an unspecified number of commuters”.
Rep. Tafoki said the situation had deteriorated to the point where bandits now openly provide bank account details for ransom payments to be made for kidnapped victims.
“Despite previous efforts by government agencies and the deployment of security personnel, banditry in these areas has persisted, signaling that current strategies are inadequate.
“The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police Force, while commendable in their past efforts, must now redouble their commitment to securing the region and restoring peace”.
The House called on security agencies to urgently intensify efforts towards rescuing all those affected by these criminals
It also urged the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Police Force to immediately reinforce security measures by deploying additional personnel to Faskari/Kankara|Sabuwa Federal Constituency, ensuring the protection of lives and property.
