The House of Representatives has urged the Ministry of Health and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to regulate the activities of telemedicine practitioners in Nigeria.
This followed a motion by Hon Blessing Chigeru Amadi at the plenary on Wednesday.
The lawmaker said telemedicine companies had been operating in Nigeria for about a decade but that there was no legal framework to regulate their activities.
She said while telemedicine would benefit Nigerians due to the shortage of clinicians to meet demands, the lack of a specific legal framework for telemedicine operators could put Nigerians at significant risks.

The House, thereafter, mandated its committee on healthcare services to convene a legislative summit with all stakeholders in telemedicine and policymakers to facilitate the process of creating a legal framework for operators in Nigeria.
The committee is to report back within four weeks for further legislative action.
