I was dumbfounded when I read in Daily Trust’s Thursday, August 18 newspaper that Amina Ali Nkeki, the first Nigerian schoolgirl from Chibok rescued from Boko Haram said she’s missing her husband, a suspected insurgent. The story however left out the name for such psychological state: It’s called Stockholm Syndrome, when a kidnapped victim or one taken hostage develops feelings of trust or affection towards a captor. And in the case of this 21-year-old it’s quite justifiable.  He is arguably the only man she has ever been intimate with and over a long period of time too. This is how pathetic the situation can get for the girls kidnapped by the ruthless insurgents.
