Residents have cried out over the continued blockade of the busy Acme Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, where the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is located.

From penultimate Saturday when the party conducted its primaries for the forthcoming local government elections in the state, the APC has been taken over by the police; restricting vehicular access to the area.

Eko Trust reports that activities on road often suffer during political activities in the state.

With the primaries held on Saturday amid protests from some party members, the party swiftly mobilised the police who barricaded a section of the.

It was gathered that the decision was to prevent protesters from invading the secretariat.

The primary elections recorded pockets of violence in some local governments with two people confirmed dead in Surulere.

Vehicles coming from the First Gate end of the road are diverted to Wemco, while those coming from the Akilo end are diverted to Metalbox to connect WEMCO or Adeniyi.

The state police command had on Friday last week denied a media report that its men had taken over the party secretariat.

As of yesterday, the Acme Road remained barricaded therereby worsening gridlock at the Wemco/Lateef Jakande axis.

A resident, Mrs Temitope, said connecting First Gate, Alausa, from Agege had been very hectic in recent days.

A businesswoman, Dumininu Ajayi, said the restriction of vehicular movement on the road for over a week had affected her business.

She said, “It is unthinkable that this type of rascality is being perpetuated by the party in power. Can the opposition try this in the state? Is the governor aware of the difficulties this action has caused business owners in this area?” adding that, “ This is an industrial area.”
