Residents of Abaji Area Council in the FCT have expressed concern over incessant reported cases of stealing of motorcycles by suspected hoodlums within the council.

A cross section of residents who spoke with our reporter on Saturday, said suspected hoodlums have been moving about from house to house to steal motorcycles in the area.

They said that the rate at which motorcycles are being declared missing on a daily basis in the area was quite alarming, adding that hoodlums mostly invade private residences including mosques to steal motorcycles.

Muhammad Bawa, a resident of Abattoir, whose motorcycle was stolen in the area, said the suspected hoodlums scaled through the fence and made away with his motorcycle when he left house to observe Subhi prayers in the mosque.

“It was last week when I went to observe Subhi prayers and came back to discover that my rubber Jincheng motorcycle was missing. I went round the compound and discovered that the thieves came through the back fence,’ he said.

Another victim, Suleiman Shuaibu, also lamented how his Jincheng motorcycle was stolen by the suspected hoodlums at junior staff quarters on the same day in the area.

He said he went to visit a neighbour whose wife had been put to bed and later returned back home and discovered that his motorcycle was nowhere to be found.

He said despite him locking up the motorcycle with a key, the hoodlums forcefully unlocked it and escaped with the motorcycle.

Kabiru Usman, another resident of Anguwar Sabon -Tasha in the area, also told our reporter how his rubber Jincheng motorcycle was stolen inside his compound last Thursday, in the area.

He said he parked his motorcycle beside his window and locked it up, saying until at about 4:12 am after the heavy downpour when he came out and discovered that his motorcycle was missing.

“In fact, I made sure that I locked both the front and back tyres of the motorcycle, but thieves still unlocked it and escaped. Me and my neighbours traced their footpath down to the Manderegi village to see if we can locate them but to no avail,” he said.

It was also reliably learnt that another brand new motorcycle was stolen at Anguwar Mansur Mosque when Muslims residents of the area were observing Magrib prayers last Friday.

A resident of Naharati, Ibrahim Danjuma, revealed that 13 motorcycles have so far been allegedly stolen by suspected hoodlums within the Abaji metropolis in the last one month.

The spokeswoman for the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine is yet to confirm the incident as at the time of filling the report.
