Residents of Kano metropolis have raised alarm over the continuous hike in prices of food commodities.
It was gathered that an increase of about 70 percent has so far been recorded on foodstuff in the recent days as a 100kg bag of maize that was sold at N9000 now sells for N17, 000; 100kg of millet, sold at N10, 000, now sells at N18, 000 and a 100kg of wheat that was N14, 000 is now sold at N20, 000.

One of the residents, Malam Aminu Uba Bello lamented that many households in the state had been forced to refocus on what to eat based on what they could afford.
He added that, the hike in price recently experienced calls for authority’s attention before it gets out of hand.
A female resident, Malama Umaima Mu’azu, said that many residents now go for maize flour instead of maize grains for easy processing as it costs less, adding that various food items have now been adopted by residents as alternatives to keep body and soul intact.
A trader at Dawanau International Grain Market, who preferred to be anonymous, said “although it has been a tradition that at the beginning of every rainy season a hike in agricultural commodity would be experienced, none in the last 10 years has been as high as that of this year.
