The Nigeria Red Cross Society in Anambra State has said that residents of areas close to the rivers who are ravaged by flood are willing to relocate to camps.
Speaking exclusively with the Daily Trust, the Anambra State vice chairman of the body, Prof. Peter Katchy said: “They are not complaining but complying because they are aware that it was not a false alarm as the government has made adequate arrangement of their safety and welfare.”
He said that the 28 camps in the eight local council areas of the state were equipped and fumigated and had steady water supply and trained personnel to oversee them.
Katchy said that the Red Cross Society was committed to safety and welfare of the residents, adding: “We are not playing with the flood victims, especially those at the riverine areas where we get our food. They are very important to the state and its economy. I can paddle a canoe to take them offshore because it is through them we have our yam, rice, etc.”
