The relative peace of Osiele community in Odeda Local Government Area of the Ogun State was shattered yesterday as hundreds of residents trooped out, seeking the removal of their monarch, the Olu of Osiele, Oba Williams Olonwoyo, and his Chiefs for allegedly creating chaos in the community.
The residents led by the chairman of Osiele Community Development Association, Mr. Muftau Sikiru trooped to the Palace of Agura in Abeokuta, demanding the state government and the Agura of Gbagura, Oba Halidu Laloko remove Oba Olonwoyo from office.
The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions such as: ‘Olu of Osiele must go’, ‘Oluwo is a cultist’, ‘the youth council rejects Olu of Osile and his Chiefs’, ‘we want peace in Osiele’.
The aggrieved residents while lodging the complaint to Agura complaints committee alleged that the Oba and his chiefs are promoting cultism, riot among other criminal activities in the community.
Sunday Ogundele, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, said they were aggrieved because the embattled Oba allegedly installed a leader of fraternity group known as “Aye” as the Oluwo of the community.
Ogundele who claimed that the traditional ruler installed the Oluwo after sacking the former one, Kehinde Akani within five days without genuine reason.
He added that, after installation of the new Oluwo, the community has been threatened by cultists of different groups, robbing and beating of both students and indigenes who tried to obstruct them.
He alleged that at the entrance of the community shrine, it was written on the wall that the present Oluwo needs 17 people for sacrifice before the end of 2017. This, he said was not so when the former Oluwo was there.
