Residents of Bwari and its adjoining villages have called on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and security agencies to pay closer attention to the area following increased bandit attacks on communities in Kaduna State that border the FCT.

The residents expressed concern over recent attacks in the Kagarko Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State. 

Some villagers reported seeing large numbers of bandits on motorcycles moving toward nearby forests.

James Shapeyi, a community leader in Bwari, said the call for special attention was necessitated by past experiences where bandits used these Kaduna villages as launchpads to attack Bwari. 

He noted that most attacks on the Kawu ward and Bwari Central are carried out by bandits who then retreat with their victims into the forests of Kagarko LGA.

“The Minister needs to pay attention to Bwari because many Kaduna villages bordering the town are now being frequently attacked,” Shapeyi said. 

He commended Wike’s security team for their recent success in curbing attacks but urged them to sustain the momentum, especially as bandits appear to be migrating toward the FCT border.

Another resident, Hauwa Mohammed, emphasized the need for a proactive stance. “They should not wait until the attacks start before taking the fight to them. There is a need to be on high alert now,” she said.

Other residents who spoke with Abuja Metro praised the FCT Administration for its proactive measures but warned that Bwari remains porous due to its proximity to Kagarko and Kachia LGAs in Kaduna, as well as Tafa in Niger State—areas that have long suffered from brutal banditry.

Abuja Metro reports that before the minister deployed a special security team to Bwari, the town had witnessed a series of kidnappings and killings involving both residents and security personnel. 

Since the team’s arrival, there have been no major attacks on the council.
