Residents of Jikwoyi in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have appealed to the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, to personally oversee the investigation into the murder of 29-year-old Blessing Moshood, who was allegedly killed on Thursday night and her body dumped in a canal.
The residents, who spoke with our reporter yesterday, expressed concern over the handling of the case, alleging that officers at the Jikwoyi Police Division only accompanied the deceased’s family to the mortuary where the corpse was deposited and advised them to conduct an autopsy.

A resident, Mrs Ramat Ali, said the circumstances surrounding the death require a thorough investigation to uncover those responsible for the crime.

According to her, investigators should focus on identifying the person who allegedly contacted the deceased and prompted her to leave her house around 8pm on the night of the incident.

She also noted that the victim’s phone was missing and urged the police to explore every available lead.

“We all know the current economic situation in the country. Asking the family to conduct an autopsy at this difficult time is like asking them to simply retrieve and bury the corpse because such a request may be difficult for them to meet,” she said.

Another resident, Joy Nwosu, commended the police commissioner for his efforts in tackling crime across the FCT and urged him to deploy the same intelligence and resources used in previous high-profile murder investigations.

A nurse, Ms Munirat Abdulkadir, said the incident has heightened fear among women in the area, especially those who return home late from work.

Mrs Ego Isiogu, on her part, described the incident as a major shock to women living in the community, warning that insecurity in the area appears to be worsening.

Another resident, Ms Habibatu Isah, said the murder has created fear among female residents, recalling previous incidents involving the killing of women in the community.

The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Superintendent Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the police have commenced investigation into the murder.
