The school, known as the Unguwar Sanda primary school, was established 20 years ago, but it has never witnessed any maintenance work, a resident, Musa Ibrahim, told Daily Trust.
A visit to the school by this reporter revealed that the rooftops of the three classrooms blocks were destroyed by wind and have not been fixed by government, despite several complaints by the community.     
Daily Trust also observed cracks all over the building and the floors of the classrooms, while most windows and doors were broken.
There were no adequate chairs and tables in most of the classrooms.
Our reporter observed that the school has no toilet and no provision was made for the Early Child Care Development (ECCD) programme.
According to Ibrahim, the government has abandoned the school, located along the Kano-Abuja expressway, saying: “The location of the school does not help matters at all. It has been in dilapidated condition for about three years now and government has not done anything to address its condition.”
He lamented that the community has lodged complaints to the local government authority but nothing was done, adding: “We will continue appealing to government until our problems is solved. We want government to help us by rehabilitating the school.”
 Another resident, Auwal Abubakar, accused the local authority of not willing to work for the people, saying: “Even the new classroom block constructed by the Governor Yero-led administration has been destroyed, while the chairs and tables provided have been destroyed by rain.”
