A cross section of the residents who made the call in an interview with Kanem Trust observed that although government deserved commendation for awarding contract for the projects, there was need for it to carefully monitor the contracting firm to ensure its speedy completion.

Malam Ahmed Goni stated that people of the area had been witnessing perenial flooding which sometimes washed away houses, saying now that government is coming to their rescue; the firm should not hesitate to complete the project within the shortest time.     

“For many years we had been subjected to flooding during rainy season due to poor road network and lack of drainage, we made several appeals to previous administrations to no avail, thank God the present government now considers our plight, but we are surprise that till this time the work has not been completed, even as rainy season commenced, government should please ensure that the work is completed before flood engulf the area”, he said   

An official of the Ministry of Works and Housing explained that the ministry is carefully supervising the projects and exonerated the contracting firm from any delay, maintaining that the work was awarded in March this year and based on the agreement that if the road is to be completed within twelve months which means, March, 2010, insisting that there is optimism that the time will be met as the work is at 70 percent level.
