Residents of the Federal Capital Territory and indeed Nigerians have been to engage professionals for proper counselling in their day-to-day activities.

Prof. Malami Umar Tambawal, National President of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) and President of the Counselling Practitioners Council, made the call shortly after the counselling practitioners council was inaugurated in Abuja.

He emphasized the crucial role of counsellors in Nigerian society, highlighting their impact on individuals, families, and communities.

He said the primary aims of the council was to assess, educate and then license councillors in the country, adding that the council.

He said the council was committed to advancing professional development, advocating for policies that promote mental health, and engaging with communities to raise awareness and improve access to counselling services.

Earlier, Dr. AJ Usman, who represented the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa, urged the board members to strictly adhere to the rules assigned to them by the relevant laws.
