North east zonal coordinator of the NHIS, Alhaji Abdulsalam Bala, gave this charge in at an interactive session with enrolees, Health Management Officers (HMO) and hospital proprietors amongst other stakeholders of the scheme which took place in Maiduguri.

Hassan Salisu of media and public relations unit of NHIS who disclosed this in a statement quoted the coordinator as haven declared at the session that enrolees had the right to choose a hospital of their choice and nobody had powers to force any hospital on them.

The zonal coordinator noted that enrolees were entitled to register for extra dependents on the payment of Nine thousand naira per annum in a situation where they had more persons they desired to have access to medical care under their names. He also said that a “contractual agreement can be made by employer/employee with Health Management Officers (H M Os) in order to enjoy some chosen services,”.

Dr Anna Peter, zonal manager, Multished Limited, a HMO, in his remark called on the health care providers to ensure proper adherence to the referral procedure, adding that the health care providers should work hand in hand with HMOS to ensure provision of qualitative health care delivery to enrolees in the country.

Dr Ogunbiyi, a Medical Director of a private hospital in Maiduguri who spoke on behalf of health providers advised beneficiaries not to manipulate the system but abide by what services applicable to them.
