Every student is in school to acquire knowledge and good morals irrespective of the school attended. However, what baffles me most is that polytechnic students are being discriminated against.
During my industrial attachment at a news media organisation, two students from one of the well-known Nigerian universities also came for their IT. They were students going to level four at the university. To my greatest surprise, however, their performance could not be compared to ours, the polytechnic students going to ND2.
I, therefore, have many reasons why I will say that polytechnic students should not be discriminated against in any way based on my experience. Before the admission of direct entry students into 200level, students admitted through JAMB were virtually leading in most departments.
However, the direct entry students superseded the performances of JAMB students in the departments. And this can be attributed to nothing other than the rigorous and practical experiences they acquired in the polytechnics.
Therefore, polytechnic students are full of knowledge, experience and can withstand any pressure. Why discriminate against them?
The overall view on this is not that university students are not capable or not up to the task, but the emphasis here is for the authorities to consider giving equal opportunities to the polytechnic students by striking a balance between students of polytechnics and their university counterparts.
