The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has urged herders across the country to respect the culture, laws, traditions and security concerns of their host communities.
The National President of the association, Khalil Mohammad Bello, made the call in Damaturu, Yobe State, during the celebration of the association’s seventh anniversary.
Bello said the appeal became necessary in view of the recurring clashes between herders and farmers, which he described as one of the major security challenges confronting the country.
“If you are following the activities of KACRAN through radio, television and newspapers, you will always hear our voices calling on our people and Nigerians to live in peace and unity,” he said.

According to him, herders, like every other group living outside their ancestral communities, should respect the traditions and laws of the areas where they reside.
“Our herders, like any other group living outside their ancestral areas, are expected to respect the culture, laws, traditions and security concerns of their host communities,” he said.
He also urged host communities to treat residents fairly and avoid stereotyping ethnic groups because of the actions of a few individuals.
“The KACRAN message is always clear. All communities living among others, including Fulani herders and settlers, should respect the traditions, laws and peaceful coexistence of their host communities,” Bello added.
The KACRAN president further said the association had, within the last seven years, resolved several disputes involving herders and farmers across the country.
