A former Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) General Manager, Luke Anele, emerged as the overall winner of the 2025 Rising Golfers Challenge after defeating over 15 competitors. The third edition of the tournament took place over the weekend at the prestigious Lakowe Golf Course in Lagos.
Anele, playing off a handicap of 21, secured victory with a net score of +4. Wilson Egberipou, Assistant Director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), finished second, playing off a handicap of 16 with a net score of six over course par. In the guest category, Bayo Alli of Lakowe Lakes claimed the top spot.
The tournament attracted notable figures, including ThisDay Newspapers Managing Director Eniola Bello, NIMASA’s Director of Administration Ogbueshi Isichei Osamgbi, and Bourbon Interoil Nigeria Ltd’s Deputy Managing Director Magnus Ibe, among others.
Speaking on the competition, the tournament’s publicity secretary, Sir Peter Osamgbi, told Golf Digest that the Rising Golfers Challenge aims to introduce and nurture new golfing talents.
Now in its third year, the event continues to foster growth in the sport, encouraging more participation and skill development among aspiring golfers.
“This is the third edition of the Rising golfer tournament where we had over 15 golfers. There were different categories and winners emerged. This tournament is aimed at developing new golfers who will play at the top as well. It was an exciting tournament and we look forward to a more exciting edition next year,” he said.
