The Zamfara State Retired Permanent Secretaries Association has commended Governor Dauda Lawal for what it described as the impactful projects and achievements recorded by his administration across the state.

The association honoured the governor with an award of recognition on Friday at the Government House Conference Hall in Gusau.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the retired permanent secretaries cited the administration’s key achievements as the basis for the honour.

Receiving the award, Governor Lawal expressed gratitude to the association for finding him worthy of the recognition, describing the honour as particularly significant coming from senior citizens who had served the state with diligence and dedication.

“There is no greater honour than receiving an award from an association of senior citizens who have served the state. I was informed about the plan to host me at a grand dinner, but time did not permit it due to my tight official schedule,” the governor said.

He added that the activities of his administration were being closely monitored by the public, stressing that his government remains committed to transparency and accountability.

Governor Lawal said his administration came into office with a clear and focused agenda aimed at repositioning the state, noting that security remains the first priority in his six-point manifesto.

“I came into office with a clear agenda. We are recording achievements across all the six areas I pledged to address during the campaign. We must continue on this path to open up the state for investors. By the grace of God, our international airport will be ready in the next few months,” he said.

According to the statement, the governor further noted that projects executed by his administration cut across all local government areas of the state.

“There is no local government in Zamfara where over ₦20 billion has not been invested in projects. Security is improving steadily, and our internally generated revenue has increased from ₦80 million to over ₦5 billion,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Zamfara State Retired Permanent Secretaries Association, Muhammad Bello Umar, mni, said the honour was to appreciate Governor Lawal for the notable achievements recorded since the inception of his administration in 2023.

He said the governor demonstrated commitment and vision from the onset by introducing a six-point agenda, adding that the administration has surpassed expectations in workers’ welfare, education, health and infrastructural development.

Umar also recalled that the association had appealed to the government for the payment of outstanding gratuities during its Annual General Meeting when the governor was barely six months in office, noting that the request was promptly honoured.

“All outstanding gratuities, amounting to over ₦13 billion, were paid. The history of Zamfara will remember you with honour. We also appreciate your generosity to our members, especially during medical emergencies,” he said.
