I am looking for a retirement car considering that I’ll be living on pension. I need one that is durable and easy to maintain. Which would you recommend among the medium class range (between a 1.6 – 2.0 liter engine) R. Mohammed.
When you finally give up work it’s often nice to treat yourself to a new set of wheels that will serve you well in the relaxing years to come.
But unlike young family car buyers, or businessmen looking for a new car for the daily communiting, retired buyers have different criteria. Often the badge isn’t important – more crucial is reliability, price, equipment levels and lengthy warranties. But instead of the staple Honda Jazz and Nissan Sunny options we decided to take a look at some left-field picks.
Lets start with the something on the cheaper side but will offer more of what you want. I’m talking about the Skoda Octavia 1.6 mpi- Ambiente. Really of the choice we would have choosen the Skoda Yeti for you but we were not able to confirm the engine range. But nevertheless the Octavia come as a bigger, bolder and more sharply styled, but the traditional virtues of quality build, a refined and well made cabin and an inoffensive profile still remain as outstanding in its class. Based on a VW Group platform shared with the Volkswagen Golf, the Czech-built Octavia has been a markedly reliable vehicle – more so than the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf. When making your choice, go for the DSG gearbox version and don’t leave it in the hands of your kid. I must warn you this car will not excite you but remain faithful.
On the other hand, you still go for the 2010 Vw Golf station wagon. I would prefer you choose a 2 liter diesel engine because they are absolutely amazing and comfortable to drive even in manual transmission- plus TDI engines are a strong performer.
But if you ever happen to have the cash, I would recommend the Mercedes Benz E-class 200 kompressor – a bit of the medium sized cars. As comfort has always been the theme of this factory you feel guaranteed with perhaps a lengthy warranty. Pick the Classic trim for an affordable choice.
