The committee comprises top officials in FCTA and Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
The Development Control Manual specifies requirements of individuals, private and public establishments in erecting physical structures in FCT so as to maintain the sanctity of the territory’s master plan.
The Development Control Manual is said to be overdue for review because of the challenges encountered by authorities in its implementation.
The committee headed by the director of Development Control, Yahaya Yusuf is to analyse provisions of the current Development Control Manual (2007 edition); evaluate the shortcomings of the manual; reconcile the provisions of the manual with concerns in the construction industry; proffer solutions; and submit a draft report within six weeks from date of inauguration of the committee.
The director of Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), FCDA, Reuben Okoya, who inaugurated the committee on behalf of the FCT Minister, said since the creation of FCT, three editions of Abuja Development Control Manual have been published.
The reviews, he said arose from changing physical and socio-economic circumstances.
“Major areas of the manual that may require review include planning, architecture, engineering, building inspection, outdoor furniture, building aesthetics, enforcement procedures against illegal structures and mass housing development amongst others,” Okoya explained.
The head of the committee, Yusuf expressed gratitude for the task and promised to complete work within specified time.
