The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the revocation of its national secretariat land in Abuja, describing it as an attempt to stifle opposition and undermine democracy.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba criticised the move by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, insisting it was politically motivated.

“The attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government to revoke the Right of Occupancy of the PDP’s national secretariat is highly condemnable. It is aimed at stifling opposition in this country and is a clear drive towards totalitarianism. This is a direct threat to democracy,” Ologunagba said.

He revealed that the revocation order affects both the party’s existing office at Wadata Plaza and its new permanent headquarters under construction in Abuja’s Central Business District.

“To illustrate how despicable this action is, it affects both properties—the new secretariat under construction and Wadata Plaza, which the PDP has occupied for nearly two decades. It is a blatant attempt to silence the opposition,” he added.

The revocation notice, dated 13 March 2025, was signed by the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze. It cited the PDP’s failure to pay annual ground rents from 1 January 2006 to 1 January 2025 as the reason for the decision.

However, Ologunagba dismissed the explanation as a mere excuse to target the opposition, warning that such actions set a dangerous precedent for the country’s democratic process.

“The NWC is currently in an emergency meeting to address this development, and we will issue a detailed response soon,” he said.
