Disclosing this during a recent farmers field day in Chiromawa, Kano State, the General Manager of WACOT Funtua, Mr. Surbirkoumar P. Dey, stated that with the present development the farmers are now having trust and confidence in the company.
He added that under the present circumstances WACOT has designed a robust Rice Out-Grower Project of real experienced farmers in Kano State to cultivate rice measuring 1,436 hectares of land in 2012/2013 season, where seed output of 5,750 metric tonnes of certified seed is expected for the next cropping season.
He reiterated the company’s commitment and willingness to work hand in hand with National Agricultural Seed Council (NASC) and all Research Institutes to produce good quality seeds for all agricultural crops, particularly rice production in Nigeria so that it can be increased substantially and ultimately reduce the level of rice importation, which coincides with the objectives of the federal government in attaining Food security and sufficiency for the country.
In a goodwill message at the event, Regional Head, National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) Zaria, Alhaji Muhammad Ubandoma, expressed high level of satisfaction with the performance of WACOT out-grower farmers project and the extension staff.
