Surprisingly, when the cultural troupe was invited to the stage to entertain the guests with a short routine, the young artiste also appeared on the stage as one of the performers. He wore a hyena skin on top of his white vest and was holding a beaded gourd. His size made him look like a minor, but his unique dance style and acrobatics informed guests that he is mature.
Minutes into the routine, the young performer gripped the audience with his exceptional dance, distinguishing him as a stand-out talent among the other talented performers. Courtesy of his unique dance, the young artist was invited to the podium by the MC to introduce himself and shortly after, photographers and other guests rushed to him for photos and even selfies, destined for social media.
He’s Richard Agah, a native of the Eggon tribe in Nasarawa State and member of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi cultural troupe. At 18, he’s a 100 level student of Theatre and Cultural Studies at the university. He disclosed that right from childhood, he has loved acting and watching movies and when he was enrolled into primary school, he developed an interest in cultural dance and drama. “I participated in drama and cultural dance while I was in primary school and that is where the development of my talent began,” he said, adding that because of his love of culture, he is now into filmmaking. So far, he’s appeared in three Nigerian movies, namely ‘The Son of the King’, ‘120 Minutes’ and ‘Oga on Top’.
Agah said contrary to popular perception, there is nothing bad in acting in movies. “Acting is all about mirroring society,” he said. He added that there’s nothing unwholesome in enlightening society through drama – or movies. He also said his dream is to become a famous Nollywood actor, or even beyond.
