Former presidential aide, Laolu Akande, has reiterated his call for President Bola Tinubu and his team to rise in boldness and win the fight against those who want to rubbish Nigeria, saying they are unrelenting, expressing worry as naira hits a record low of N1800 per $1.

Akande expressed his concerns in a thread of tweet posted via his X handle on Tuesday, February 21, 2024, wondering if the leaders were ready to fight the battle that is putting Nigeria in the war mood.

In his thread, Akande said, “Naira is now 1800 to a dollar! LORD HAVE MERCY! And in one night, 45 trucks attempting to smuggle food out of the country amid rising food prices here in Nigeria! Thankfully, the trucks were intercepted according to VP. Let’s be frank with ourselves, it’s like Nigeria is at W@R!!

“Hopefully, our leaders are READY for this fight. [This was the point of My Take last Friday on #InsideSources @channelstv] Those who want to rubbish Nigeria are unrelenting, Mr. President & team must rise up with boldness; win this fight once & for all. 1800 Naira to the dollar?”

Earlier, the anchor of “Inside Sources,” a popular talk show on Channels TV, in his latest edition last Friday, February 16, 2024, during his “My Take” segment charged Nigerian leaders to effect reforms, saying, Nigeria needs bold leaders to confront the country’s multifaceted challenges, especially security and economic problems.

Giving his take which is the traditional opening session on the Inside Sources programme, Akande said leaders must be honest and courageous to overcome the challenges in the country, as he called for reforms in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

“The situation we are facing today is worrying and many of us still hope and pray that our leaders can summon the required courage to surmount the conditions and to deal with the contradictions, especially in agencies in CBN & NNPC, two of the most critical institutions that must be thoroughly reformed if our economy is to come out of what seems to be a doldrum,” Akande said.

He warned President Tinubu that he was carrying a heavier burden than his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying, that Tinubu was not just carrying the burden of promise but he was carrying the burden of truncated hope. And good a thing he has rightly named his agenda Renewed Hope.

“The burden that President Tinubu is carrying is heavier than that of President Buhari and it is important that is said because now President Tinubu is not just carrying the burden of promise but he is carrying the burden of truncated hope. And good a thing he has rightly named his agenda Renewed Hope,” Akande said.

The reason being that he said Nigerians had placed so much expectations on the promises and now they are wondering how come they believed a lie.

“So, it is up to President Tinubu to show that those promises made in 2015 were no lies. And that is why we are appealing to him today and all those in authority that the government be it executive, judiciary or legislature, it is important to apply courage and boldness,” Akande said.
