To conclude proceedings today, Wikki Tourists will take on Rising Stars of Akure in the opening match at 2 pm while Jigawa Golden Stars will engage Akwa United in the second match.

Rising Stars scored their two goals early in the first half through Tunde Adeniyi who opened scoring in the 12th minute and Seun Olulayo who beat an off-side trap in the 15th minute to score the second goal for his side.

In the second half, Akwa United striker Ojobo Ochuka took a curling free-kick at the edge of the box and two defenders of Rising Stars failed to head out as they instead scored an own goal to reduce the tally for their opponents.

Rising Stars ended the match with ten men when substitute Kehinde Abiodun was given the marching order for a second yellow card.

The second match of the evening between the home side Wikki Tourists and Jigawa Golden Stars was played under tense atmosphere as the home fans exhibited acts of soccer hooliganism.

Although the home team went straight into business, the only attempt at goal was made in the 17th minute by burly striker Shaibu Amadu.

The match proceeded without any impressive performances from either side until it was abruptly stopped towards the end of the half following an attack on the second assistant referee by the irate home fans.

The match was delayed for over five minutes to enable security men at the stadium restore law and order.

The presence of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari saved the day as he personally appealed to the fans to allow the match to continue.

Play later resumed but the first half did not produce anything more than the hard tackles that continued to fly about.

In the 50th minute a goal mouth scramble almost resulted into a goal for Jigawa but the referee had to blow for an infringement on Wikki keeper Babangida Yusuf.

Jigawa’s Henry Ezekiel save his side in the 67th minute when he headed out a goal bound ball on the goal line but was immediately handed a yellow card for time wasting.

Tension again rose high when Wikki Tourist’s Emenike Onouha was dismissed for a second yellow card offence towards the end of the match.

The fans grumbled loudly but the match went ahead with the home side fighting desperately to pick the maximum points.

As hard as Wikki Tourists tried, Jigawa Golden Stars defenders remained resolute until the referee’s whistle went for the end of the tension soaked match.
