A combine team of Mobile and regular policemen Tuesday in Abuja fired several canisters of tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters calling for immediate removal of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu, over his perceived bias in the political crisis rocking the state.

The protesters, under the auspices of the Anti Corruption Network (ACN), led by the group’s Executive Secretary, Dino Melaye, had  at the early hours of the day began their demonstration from Ahmadu Bello Way to Kur Mohammed Avenue and the National Mosque area all in the Central Business District, Abuja, before they were dispersed by the policemen led by CSP Gabriel Elaigwu, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, FCT.

The police had waited for the protesters at the Federal Secretariat and were seen  manning strategic positions at the Force Headquarters, with officers, including women, gabbed in anti-riot gears, but the protesters chose a different route and venue for their protests.

After learning that they had been outsmarted, the policemen near the Federal Secretariat dashed into their vehicles to confront the placard carrying protesters chanting solidarity songs.
