A member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Timothy Osadolor, has told the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that the earlier he realized that power has changed hands in the political equation of Rivers, the better in resolving the ongoing crisis.
Osadolor, who was reacting to the move to impeach Governor Siminalaye Fubara by some members of the State House of Assembly, accused the FCT Minister of trying to control the state when there is a sitting governor in place.
The PDP NWC member who is also the Deputy National Youth Leader of the party told Daily Trust that “The attempt by former Governor Wike to lord it over the incumbent in Rivers state is embarrassing, unfortunate and painful. The FCT Minister should realise that it is not easy to lord it over a Governor that was elected by the people, he was minister before, he is minister now, he was Governor for eight years, nobody controlled him, or tried to be a godfather to him he operated with a free hand.
“If he was given a free hand to operate as Governor of Rivers State, why is it so hard for him to realize that there is now a change of baton and the new Governor wants to be his own man. The Governor is the one saddled with the responsibility of delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers.
“The Governor is the chief custodian of the resources of Rivers State people, the argument is that he wants to control the resources of River state, on who gets appointment and how money accruing to the state is dispensed, the FCT Minister should not be greedy. I want to salute the courage of Governor Fubara who is courageous enough to say no to godfatherism.”
Osadolor also charged President Tinubu to call the minister to order so that his activities in Rivers will not impede on the integrity of the President.
He said, “I want to also call on President Bola Tinubu who has given Wike the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to call him to order. I am aware that Wike is occupying the slot of Rivers State in the Federal Executive Council, that definitely does not make him more important than the state or the Governor.
“The integrity of the President is on the line and he must call Wike to order. He should tell him that enough of his drama, this is not the best of time for all these drama. The president has so many issues in the country to be worried about, this is not the right time.”
