The Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial district , Senator Magnus Abe was alleged to have been hit with a police  rubber bullet. But police said it does not use rubber bullet in its operation.  Abe was among the dignitaries that gathered at College of Arts , Rumola , Port Harcourt, sunday, for a political rally organized by a group called Save Rivers Movement.

Eye witness said the event which was a flag off of a political rally by the group to declare their for All Progressive Party, APC, and governor Amaechi  was about to start when police came in and dispersed the gathering with tear  gas.

The eye witness said there was pandemonium at the venue of the event  as everybody was scampering for safety. The eye witness however denied any knowledge of the Senator being hit with a rubber bullet.

However, Dr Mike Anyanwu whose clinic Senator Abe  was reportedly taken to said the Senator is lying critically ill in his clinic. He said Abe was in shock when he was brought to the clinic. He also said the Senator had chest pain as a result of excessive tear gas he inhaled.

He however did not confirm if the Senator was hit with a rubber bullet.

Meantime, Rivers State police command has denied that Senator Abe was shot with a rubber bullet. The command’s public relation Officer, Almad Muhammed said the police does not use rubber bullet in dispersing crowd. He said the police had to disperse the gathering at college of Arts Rumola because the organizers of the event did not obtain police permission.

He said Senator Abe drove out of the venue with the Chief of Staff to the governor, Tony Okocha  immediately police came in stressing that nobody shot the Senator. “I want to tell you that police does not use rubber bullet in our operations. We only use tear gas to disperse crowd. Senator Abe left the venue with Chief of Staff to the governor immediately the police came. He was not shot by anybody” he said.
