Rivers United are aiming for a handsome victory in today’s rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 14 match against hosts Plateau United to go top of the table.
Current leaders, Nasarawa United, have 30 points with a goal difference of +7 while Rivers United in third position on 28 points have a + 6 goal difference.
Therefore, if they win by at least two unreplied goals against Plateau United, they would automatically dislodge Nasarawa United from the top with a superior goal difference.
The fact that Rivers United would still have an outstanding match makes the task of overtaking both Ikorodu City and Nasarawa United possible.
Meanwhile, Plateau United must avoid another defeat to stand any chance of finishing the first round above the red zone.
Plateau United are going into the match in 17th position with 18 points, but victory over Rivers United will help them overhaul Enyimba who presently occupy the 13th position.
However, another home defeat will keep Plateau United among relegation-troubled clubs Kano Pillars, Barau FC, and Kun Khalifat.
