Rivers United yesterday walloped already relegated Gombe United 6-0 in the matchday 37 fixture of the 2023/24 StarTimes/NPFL season at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
It was a bright start for the hosts as Shedrack Asiegbu tapped in from close range, courtesy of a precision cross from Abba Suleiman in the 10th minute and he doubled the lead in the 40th minute.
In the 51st minute, Enyinnaya Kazie made it 3-0 just as Nwangwa Nyima made it 4-0 in the 64th minute. Not done, Seiyefa Jackson scored twice in the 83rd and 87th minutes to move to 8th position on 53 points.
In the other games, Plateau United were held to a 1-1 draw by Kano Pillars. Legendary Rabiu Ali had put Pillars in front in the 62nd but Pam Samuel ensured both sides shared the spoils with a 64th minute strike just as Lobi Stars defeated Kwara United 4-3.
Heartland FC returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 Niger Tornadoes while Katsina United defeated Doma United 2-0.
Meanwhile, action continues today when Bayelsa United hosts Shooting Stars while Abia Warriors trade tackles Akwa United. Bendel Insurance will be guests to Enugu Rangers while Sunshine Stars will welcome Remo Stars and Enyimba will visit Sporting Lagos.
