RKK Group, a prominent Nigerian conglomerate, has said ensuring occupational health and safety is crucial for employee wellbeing and quality production and output.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja, the group’s chief executive officer,  Aderemi Rasheed Kilaso, said ensuring occupational safety is very important for organisations that deal with construction, renewable energy as well as chemicals.

He said the group, which comprises 11 subsidiaries, is also working towards the Integrated Management System (IMS) certification.

Kilaso said the IMS certifications, which include ISO 9001:2015 (Quality management), ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental management), and ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational health and safety), will further enhance RKK Group’s ability to deliver sustainable and reliable energy solutions across Africa.

He said RKK prioritises safety in the workplace for its staff which is aligned with the occupational health and safety component of the ISO certification.

He said the group has also developed a multifunctional solar backpack that helps supply power without carbon emissions and boosts small and medium-scale businesses in the country.

Kilaso said the innovation, called iRESS solar backpack, is equipped with a foldable solar panel, lithium phosphate battery and an inverter system.

He said it is designed to meet the daily energy needs of users by harnessing solar energy and providing durable battery storage.

He said, “The iRESS solar backpack is more than just a product; it represents our contribution to global sustainability efforts. Through clean energy access and economic empowerment, we are playing a part in building a better world.”

He added that the backpack will be presented to the UN General Assembly, saying it is a viable solution to the epileptic power supply in the country as it can be easily carried from place to place, and does not generate carbon emissions, which have health implications.

“There is a foldable solar panel, a lithium phosphate battery and an inverter system in that single bag. It is clean energy, no noise, no pollution and still power a business.”

He said it is the first backpack that has an inverter system that can discharge 220 volts output, and that the lithium-ion battery has 6,000 cycles, meaning that the bag on its own will last for 15 years.
