This was made known by RMRDC’s acting Director-General, Dr. Husseini Ibrahim, when the chairman of Dantata Group, Alhaji Tajudeen Dantata, visited the council in Abuja.
According to Dr Ibrahim, Nigeria would continue to lose a lot of money to foreign companies if it failed to stop importation of sesame oil.
“Ranging from the production of the raw materials and the issue of value addition, the nation will lose a lot of money if we continue to be import dependent. We are interested in the issue of forming clusters for these sesame producers and we’re willing to form partnerships with you and as a government agency we’ll see what we can do to promote these activities for the benefit of Nigeria and its economy”, the RMRDC DG said.
Speaking on why the company decided to collaborate with RMRDC on sesame oil production, Alhaji Dantata said the idea was to group the sesame farmers within the same vicinity into a cluster and then improve their farming method “so we can meet both local and international demands.”
He also said: “We intend to group them in clusters and empower them with machines for oil mill production. They will operate the mill in such a way that they will be in charge of buying the seeds, process, crush and we will buy the crude oil from them which we will now refine.
“That is why we’ll like to collaborate with you (RMRDC) in this area.”
He said though the relationship between Dantata and RMRDC started years back, the fresh partnership will concretise the relationship.
