The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Sector Command, has said road crashes in the state declined by 29.86 per cent just as fatalities crashed by 24.86%.

The Lagos Sector Commander Babatunde Farinloye stated this during the commissioning of an office complex extension donated to the command by energy firm, Axxela Limited.

Farinloye emphasised the significance of the office complex, noting its pivotal role in facilitating the corps’ mandate of creating safer roads for Lagos residents and Nigerians alike.

He further said during his tenure, the command had recorded a notable decline in road crashes, fatalities, and severity, with incidents involving tanker trucks witnessing a significant reduction.

“Available statistics indicated that crash, fatality and severity declined by 29.86%, 24.86% and 32.89% respectively. Incidents involving tanker trucks dropped by 36.36% while fatality dropped 62.43%,” he stated.

These figures, he emphasised, were a testament to the effectiveness of the corps’ operations and strategic interventions.

He, however, stated that over-speeding, aggressive and distracted driving as well as driving under the influence (DUI) remain critical issues that must be collectively addressed going forward.

FRSC Corps Marshal Dauda Biu, represented by Assistant Corps Marshal Zone 11, Hyginus Omeje, commissioned the building alongside members of the management of the firm.

Biu called for a paradigm shift in the behaviour of FRSC officers towards road users, emphasising the need for mutual respect and service orientation.
