Road crashes kill 4 in Yobe, Bayelsa

Four persons have died in road accidents in Bayelsa and Yobe states.

In Bayelsa, three people were killed on Thursday when a truck lost control and rammed into a car and a tricycle at the Sani Abacha area of Okaka, Yenagoa.

The timber-laden truck reportedly veered off course and collided with the smaller vehicles, causing severe damage and casualties.

Several injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, while authorities temporarily halted traffic to clear the wreckage.

Residents described the incident as shocking and urged stricter enforcement of road safety regulations for heavy-duty vehicles.

Police spokesman, DSP Musa Muhammad, said an investigation was underway.

In Yobe, one person died and six others were injured in a crash on Wednesday night in Damagum, Fune LGA.

The accident sparked protests from residents who decried recurring highway fatalities.

The crash occurred when a trailer travelling from Damaturu to Lagos reportedly lost control and rammed into a Mitsubishi Canter carrying 18 passengers.

A witness said the trailer, registration number MUS 791XH, hit the smaller vehicle with force, leaving the scene in chaos.

Yobe police spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed that one victim, Dahiru Maikudi (40), died at the General Hospital, Damagum, while six others were referred to a teaching hospital.
