As at the time of filing this report, those who kept the human body parts inside the building could not be identified, let alone apprehended by the authorities. Weekly Trust however confirmed the story from some Muslim residents of the area who work at the nearby cemetery.

Other items found inside the uncompleted building include a wooden stove where what appeared to be fried human parts were seen and some black plastic bags containing brownish powder.

In the cemetery, Weekly Trust saw ongoing work to mend graves from where human body parts were allegedly exhumed and taken into the building by the yet-to-be-identified cannibals.

The residents, numbering about 12, told Weekly Trust that “sometimes ago, whenever we bring a corpse for internment, we will come across graves that have been destroyed and the buried corpses exhumed. Those perpetrating the act also cut parts of the corpses and go with them. Other times, we will only see the white shroud without the corpse.

“Mostly, it is during electioneering campaigns and communal strifes that we see a rise in such dastardly acts, perhaps to be used for rituals. The perpetrators also go to the cemetery mostly at night to commit their satanic acts,” the people added.

The people said also that, “one of the hunting dogs that go round the bush from where the cemetery was carved out discovered the place. The dog literally drew us into the house and that was how we followed it only for us to make this mysterious discovery.”

“It was inside the uncompleted structure that we found human body parts tied inside different black leather bags. In fact, one of the leathers contained fried human lap. One of the stretchers we use to conveying people to the cemetery was found inside the house,” the residents said.

Ustaz Ismail told Weekly Trust that “we were restrained from notifying the security operatives earlier due to some little problems. But now, we have resolved the issues. We are in the process of hiring watchmen and vigilante groups to help us arrest the criminals so that we can hand them over to the authorities.”

“Now that the problem has reduced, we will remain vigilant so that the moment we come across another instance, we will notify the securities before mending the grave. This way, they will see with their eyes what we are trying to say, so that the dead will be allowed to rest in their graves.”

One of the residents in the delegation led by Ustaz Ismail said, “Our rich Muslim brothers should come to our aid so that we can arrest this disturbing trend. Unless they do that, we may not be able to pay for all we are trying to do. Right now we are doing it voluntarily. So the rich among us should be visiting the graves so that they will know what we are saying.”

Efforts by Weekly Trust to have the views of the traditional ward and village heads in the area proved abortive. They were said to have travelled to Ibadan to see the state governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, over some current issues.

At the police station in Jobele, the headquarters of Afijio Local Government Area, a police officer who asked not to be identified said,” We are yet to have the report before us, but once we do, I assure you that we will swing into action immediately to arrest the situation,” he said.
