Suspected armed robbers have ambushed vehicles conveying traders to Dansadau town in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, one of the victims told Daily Trust.
It was gathered that the traders were coming back home from Kano City with their goods when the armed bandits opened fire on their vehicles between Hannu Tara and Mashayar Zaki villages near Dansadau.
One of the traders receiving treatment from gunshot wounds at a medical facility in Dansadau said they had to stop over in Magami when it was dark and then proceeded the following day to Dansadau, but that they were intercepted by the armed robbers.
“When they started firing at our vehicles, some of us managed to get out and escaped into the forest. But some were trapped. As they came closer to the vehicles they started beating us and some of us were groaning in pain as a result of injuries sustained from gunshots,” he said.
He said the armed robbers then asked one of the traders to start offloading the goods to their motorbikes, and that he had to comply, even though, the trader later received serious beating from the armed robbers when he showed signs of fatigue.
He further narrated that the whereabouts of three of them; including a woman, was still unknown, adding that about eight of them were currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The spokesman of the state’s police command, DSP Muhammad Shehu, could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
