A gang of armed robbers, who reportedly dressed in the vigilante uniform have raided houses in Afiyawai area in Deidei, an the Abuja suburb.
The incident, which took place around 1am on Monday, took many people by surprise, as some residents who rushed out to render assistance, unknowingly mingled with the impostors.
A resident, Umar Aminu, said three people were injured by the robbers, including a carpenter, who ran toward them in search of the thieves.
City & Crime was told that on arriving, the gunmen forced their way into the house of a foreign currency dealer, Saadu Abdullahi, tied his hands and pointed a gun at his little son’s head.
Speaking to our reporter yesterday, Abdullahi said they threatened to shoot the boy before robbing him of some money and seized all mobile phones in the house.
“I later managed to untie myself and fled through my neighbour’s house,’’ he said, adding that the robbers left with his car but they were forced to abandon it within the neighbourhood, by the vigilante members from the community who exchanged gunshots with them.
No immediate response from the FCT police command on the incident.
