Suspected armed robbers have invaded Unguwar Sabon Tasha, in Abaji Area Council of the FCT and dispossessed tenants of some households of their phones and undisclosed sums of money.

This incident is similar to one reported by Abuja Metro on Saturday, June 21, 2025, when suspected robbers invaded another estate about a hundred meters away and stole phones, laptops, and cash from the occupants.

A victim, Mr. Ifeanyi Emmanuel, said the latest incident happened around 3am on Thursday. 

He said eleven robbers, some of whom were carrying AK-47 rifles, scaled the fence of the estate to gain entrance and then started robbing from one to the other.

Emmanuel said he was asleep when the robbers forced his door open with a kick. They demanded his phone and also took an undisclosed amount of money from him.

“I was sleeping when I started hearing gunshots. One of the robbers told their members to shoot anyone who refused to open their door or surrender their phones and money,” he said.

Emmanuel noted that while the operation was ongoing for over 15 minutes, some gang members were standing in front of the estate gate, watching for any vigilantes or security operatives who might come after them.

Another tenant, Kehinde Yusuf, said two of the robbers forced their way into his room by kicking the door open.

He said the robbers took his phone and that of his wife, and then forced him to transfer ₦175,000 from his account to them.

“When they first came, they tried to gain entrance through the window after pulling down the nets, but they couldn’t succeed until they used their feet and kicked the door open,” he said.

He added that the robbers invaded all the rooms in the compound, taking phones, laptops, and money before fleeing into the bush amid sporadic shooting.

A resident, simply identified as Idris, said he woke up at about 2.47am to urinate, and heard strange voices, which made him suspect they were robbers.

He added, “In less than 10 minutes, I started hearing gunshots, with one of them saying ‘shoot him if he refuses to surrender his phone and money.”

 

Vigilante member stabbed

Meanwhile, a member of the vigilante identified as Rabiu Mohammed was reportedly stabbed in the neck by one of the robbers during the operation.

A fellow vigilante, who was simply identified as Usman, said the incident happened after vigilantes heard gunshots and decided to mobilize to the scene.

He said Mohammed was walking to meet his colleagues, who were guarding some houses in the area when he unknowingly ran into the robbers.

“They even shot at the vigilante, but the bullet did not penetrate before one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the neck, leaving him in a pool of blood before they escaped,” he said.

According to the vigilante, the robbers struck after the two vigilante members guarding houses in the area had left around 3am.

He said the injured vigilante has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The police in the area confirmed the attack.
