Operatives of the Ogun Police Command killed an armed robbery suspect in a gun duel with a robbery gang along Shagamu/Ikenne expressway in Ogun State.

The suspect, whose identity has not been ascertained, was killed following a distress call made to the police at Ikenne divisional headquarters about operations of a robbery gang.

The robbers were reportedly operating between Adelex filling station and Ladgroup company, along the expressway, dispossessing people of their valuables at gunpoint.

The spokesman of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Monday, in Abeokuta, said following receipt of the distress call, the DPO Ikenne Division, CSP Ndoukauba Onuma, mobilised his patrol team and personnel to the scene.

According to him, the robbers, upon sighting the police, opened fire on them, leading to a gun battle which lasted for several minutes.

One of the suspects was gunned down, while others reportedly escaped through the bush.

“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun battle consequent upon which one of the robbers was shot dead while others escaped into the bush with gunshot injuries,” he said.

He said a mock gun and a Toyota Corolla car with registration number KNN 84 TD which was snatched from the owner, were recovered from the scene.
