A 34-year-old armed robbery suspect, Yusuf Nasiru, who was arrested by the police in Lagos said during a robbery operation, has appealed to the police to help arrest his fleeing mates for allegedly pushing him out of their moving operational vehicle.

“I am angry with my gang members for pushing me out of the bus when we were being pursued by policemen. So they want me to die. We planned the operation together but they betrayed me so I want us all to face the music,” Nasiru said.

The suspect and his gang members, operating in a Mazda bus registration number KRD 783 XW,  allegedly attacked commuters along the Ijebu Ode road, Ikorodu, on November 15, 2018. They were accused of also breaking shops along the road.

It was learnt that their operation was aborted midway when policemen on pin-down duty near the scene alerted the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Shagamu road police station, Chief Suprintendet Adekunle Omisakin, who mobilised to the scene with a team of Anti-Crime policemen and engaged the robbers in a shootout.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti, who confirmed the report, said when the robbers realised they were being overpowered by the police, they jumped into their bus and fled.

Oti said that as the police chased the robbers, they pushed out from the bus one of their colleagues with bullet wounds, Nasiru, whom they had mistaken for dead. “The team recovered the man, revived him and he gave his name as Yusuf Nasiru, aged 34. He was searched and a knife and some charms were recovered from him,” the PPRO said.

The suspect, said to be miffed by what his gang members did to him, was understood to be cooperating with the police by providing useful information.
