A new wave of innovation is sweeping through Kaduna as young Nigerians are being introduced to coding and robotics at an early age through the Summer Coding and Robotics Camp organized by EK EdTech Africa in partnership with 301 HAG Cooperative Multi-purpose Society.
The initiative, which brings together children from diverse backgrounds, aims to transform the way young people in Nigeria engage with technology by equipping them with digital and problem-solving skills relevant to the 21st century.
Speaking during a media briefing, the founder of EK EdTech Africa and camp coordinator, Ephraim Nyigba, explained that the project goes beyond teaching coding and building robots—it is about preparing children to thrive in a fast-changing world.
“The mission of the Summer Coding and Robotics Camp is to equip children with 21st-century digital and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning in coding, robotics, and teamwork,” Nyigba said. “We want to inspire creativity, innovation, and resilience in young minds, ensuring that they are not just consumers of technology but creators and innovators.”
Nyigba, an electrical and electronics engineer with over eight years of experience in STEM education and robotics facilitation, noted that the program represents “education beyond the classroom.”
“At 301 HAG CMS, we believe that every child, regardless of background, deserves access to quality STEM education. This camp is not just about building robots; it is about building confidence, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. It is where mistakes turn into lessons, and where young Nigerians see themselves as global problem-solvers,” he said.
The camp also seeks to position Nigerian children for global opportunities. According to Nyigba, the exposure gained from such training helps level the playing field with their peers in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
“Nigerian children are intelligent, creative, and resourceful. By introducing them early to coding, robotics, and STEM competitions, we are preparing them to compete globally. Our camp gives them access to the same tools and methodologies used internationally, ensuring that they can take their rightful place on the global innovation stage,” he emphasized.
On the broader impact of robotics and STEM education, Nyigba stressed its role in job creation and entrepreneurship.
“Robotics and coding are not just future skills—they are current economic drivers. By training young people in these areas, we are opening pathways to careers in software development, AI, engineering, and entrepreneurship,” he explained. “This platform can empower youths to create their own solutions, start tech-based businesses, and contribute to industries that will define the future of Nigeria’s economy.”
He called for stronger government and private sector collaboration to sustain and scale such initiatives.
“Through EK EdTech Africa and our partnership with 301 HAG CMS, we have impacted children by giving them practical exposure to robotics and coding, building their confidence and preparing them for both local and international competitions,” Nyigba said.
“To accelerate this vision, we need collaboration through funding, policy support, provision of STEM labs in schools, and sponsorship of innovation challenges. When the public and private sectors invest in youth-focused STEM initiatives, Nigeria can become a hub of innovation and job creation.”
