Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in the first half to lead Portugal to a 5-0 win over Uzbekistan in their 2026 World Cup Group K match.

The 41-year-old had a poor start to the World Cup drawing blanks against DR Congo, but the Al Nassr forward was the headline cast in Texas as the European nation lived up to its favourites tag.

Ronaldo gave Portugal an early lead with a first time strike to the near post on six minutes to become the first player to score in six FIFA World Cup tournaments.

The former Real Madrid marksman then made it 3-0 with another first time finish to the bottom far corner for his 10th World Cup goal, eclipsing Eusebio as Portugal’s highest goalscorer in World Cup history.

It was also the first time Portugal scored three goals in the first half of a World Cup match.

Nuno Mendes scored a low free kick either side of Ronaldo’s goals before two further goals in the second half- Abduvakhid Nematov’s own goal and Rafael Leao’s strike- rounded up the big victory.

Ronaldo had further chances to get a hattrick but had a shot saved and could not connect another on target in the dying seconds as Portugal sealed the maximum points.

Portugal improved to four points from two matches in Group K, and will face Colombia in their final group match to seal progress into the knockout rounds and determine the group winners.
