The Rotary Club of Abuja District 9125 has planted over 100 trees at the LEA Primary School, Sabon Lugbe in the Federal Capital Territory as part of its support towards enhancing green and sustainable environment.

Speaking on Saturday at the event tagged ‘Greening Nigeria’, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja, Salihu Kindo, said the initiative which was executed with supports from Rotarians, was in line with the global focus of Rotary International in the area of sustaining safe and healthy environment through planting of trees.

He said the choice of Sabon Lugbe community for the tree planting was due to the fact that the prevalence of indiscriminate felling of trees is more in the localities as the people depend largely on firewood for cooking.

Kindo emphasized the need for every Nigerian to imbibe the culture of tree planting, adding that “for every tree that you fell, it is important that you plant two”.

He said the Rotary Club of Abuja after a careful assessment adopted Sabon Lugbe School where it will be offering various supports and interventions to enable it compete favorably with other schools in the capital city.

Responding, the school’s Head Teacher, Suleiman Gimba, commended the Rotary Club of Abuja for the gesture, saying that the school authority would ensure that the trees are well nurtured to beautify the school  and also enhance a sustainable environment for pupils.
