Rotary Club of Kano (Dala Sunrise) has renovated and equipped two classrooms at the Fatima Muhammad Secondary School in Gyadi-Gyadi area of Kano metropolis.

The all-girls school with a population of over 1,500 students, according to its principal, had earlier benefitted from a donation of books from the club.

Speaking at the commissioning of the classrooms yesterday, the President of Dala Sunrise chapter of the club, Chris Idoko said assisting schools was part of the area of focus of the club. He said it started with two classrooms because of its lean resources but would renovate and equip others soon.

He said apart from the school, two communities (Yanzago, where a young boy recently drowned in a well and Gawuna quarters in Brigade) were also beneficiaries of the club’s activity on Saturday with the provision of boreholes, one of which is solar-powered.

Responding on behalf of the state government, Dr. Bello Shehu, Executive Secretary of the state’s Senior Secondary School Management Board, said the renovation of the classrooms was in support of the government’s free and compulsory education policy and encouragement to others to also key into the policy.

The head girl of the school, Fatima Alhassan, thanked the Rotarians for the gesture and promised on behalf of the students that they would maintain the classrooms.
