The Rotary Clubs of Apo and Aso Golf have teamed up to keep polio at zero level in the country.

As part of the campaign, the clubs hosted a Tennis Development Clinic titled “Serve for Cause, Smash out Polio” on Wednesday in Abuja.

The clinic included free coaching to teach Rotarians tennis skills while promoting polio awareness.

Rtn. Chijioke Ekechukwu, District Governor Nominee of Rotary International, highlighted Rotary’s decades-long commitment to eradicating polio worldwide.

“As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary has raised $2.6 billion, deployed volunteers, and driven awareness campaigns globally since its inception.

“Rotary’s 1.4 million members have volunteered countless hours delivering life-saving vaccines to children. (NAN)

“Polio cases have dropped 99.9 per cent since 1988. Wild poliovirus remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“In Nigeria, wild poliovirus has been eliminated—a milestone achieved through coordinated national and international efforts,” he noted.

Ekechukwu said this progress demonstrates what unity among governments, organizations, and communities can achieve. (NAN)
