As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Rotary Club of Abuja Metro (RCAM) recently embarked on an adult literacy programme in Sauka, a community on the outskirts of FCT, Abuja.

The programme is aimed at empowering some illiterate members of the community with basic literacy and computational skills.  

President, Rotary Club of Abuja Metro, Osi Imomoh, in his speech, thanked Rotarians for the selflessness they displayed in giving their time and resources to the project.

Items donated included text books, writing materials and bags. 

While emphasizing that education is light, the president expressed hope that the programme would open up the learners to a wider vista of opportunities and thanked such corporate partners as Apex Mills which donated books for use by the adult learners.

Imomoh also said the club was hoping to complete the construction of a community health centre within the same rotary year.

The representative of the director for Agency for Adult Literacy (FCT Abuja), Gordon-Mmeo Promise, thanked the club for the project and acknowledged the level of impact that the club would have on the lives of adult learners and on the community as a whole.
