Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched an artillery attack on the presidential palace in Khartoum on Thursday, marking their second strike on the capital in less than a week, military sources reported.

The RSF fired long-range artillery from Al Salha province, across the White Nile River, bringing them closer to the palace than at any point since government forces reclaimed Khartoum in March, an anonymous source told AFP.

There were no immediate reports of casualties from the attack, which followed a similar RSF bombardment of the military command headquarters in Khartoum on Saturday.

The RSF and government forces have been locked in conflict since April 2023, a war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced over 13 million people.

Since losing control of Khartoum in April, RSF fighters have shifted their focus to capturing towns in western Darfur. Their last major stronghold still under government control is the city of Al Fasher.
